Dragbike Live has obtained video footage shot during last weeks failed Vulcan Bike Week events. The footage appears to be just seconds after the announcement came down from the promoters of Vulcan Bike Week and The Thunder On The Mountain drag race, that they were not paying the guaranteed purse of $90,000 as advertised.
The announcement was made at Alabama International Raceway in what appears to be a riders meeting that was called by the organizers of the event. Johnny Gibson Sr. (promoter and organizer of the event/wearing yellow shirt and a blue hat) is shown speaking in the video just seconds after announcing to the crowd he would not be about to pay the purse.
As tempers flare one person attending the meeting can be heard saying …“your gonna go to jail!” while another shouts out “yall told us this morning the money was good! three or four hours ago!” Most look to be in shock while others were very angry. Track owners stepped in to try and come to a resolution for the racers, while telling one angry and boisterousness attendee to “don’t curse me! I just asked, I ain’t got nothing to do with it!” the track owner eventually tells the attendee to “get out of my track”.
In confusion of the Alabama Track International Raceway owner (man in red shirt) speaking to the crowd, a unidentified bystander to the action can be overheard saying “as soon as he started talking the Gibson’s slipped out “.
a statement (spelling uncorrected) posted on the official event website, www.vulcanbikeweek.com had this to say,
“The move to steele was a must to keep the bikers that had hopes on attending our event from not wanting to come to Birmingham for biker events at all. The events that are going
on at Alabama International Dragway are events that were scheduled to take place in steele
anyway. We designed and produced an event that would benefit the entire city, weather we
got 100,000 people the first year or 100,000 people the 5 year. We had a scholarship
program that was set in place to provide multiple first year college students with funds for
necessary items that was unforseen. We wanted to keep the hope alive that one day
birmingham alabama would have a true bike week, that generated millions for the city , and with us moving parts of the bike week to steele, we will kept that hope alive.”
while this statement (spelling uncorrected) is posted on the website, just below…
If you thnik that you have the baddest Grudge bike in the south east,or you are the baddest Grudge rider in the south east then this race is for you.
Not only does the thunder on the mountain Drag race have a $90,000
Guaranteed total purse, But the winners will have bragging rights for the
entire year and a giant trophy to back them up.Grudge Class- $50,000 total Purse
Mod class- $25,000 total Purse
Stock bike class- $ 15,000 Total Purse
As you can see this will be one of the most talked about races in the southeast.
As far as we can tell no one received even so much as a trophy from the promoters of the event. However one thing is true, they did come through on one claim of advertising…..“As you can see this will be one of the most talked about races in the southeast” The promoters did deliver on this advertised claim!
we do not make this stuff up….we only report it…
