The 2012 NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) season will be full of “firsts” for the six-time Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship Star Racing team.

This season, Star Racing and owner George Bryce have partnered with the 2011 UEM European Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship Team, Sovereign Racing. The newly-assembled Sovereign-Star Racing crew has also recently recruited two fairly untested racers to
pilot their 2010 S&S powered XB9R Buells.

These fresh talents are John Hall, of Hamden, Conn., and Scotty Pollacheck, of Medford, Ore., and are both graduates of Bryce’s Pro Stock Motorcycle drag racing school in Gainesville, Fla.

Hall and Pollacheck are also eligible for the Automobile Club of Southern California Road to the Future Award, which honors the series’ top rookies.

Although Pollacheck has already made his NHRA debut by winning the 2003 NHRA Division 7 Motorcycle Championship, he is eager to add some larger, national event Wallys to his collection. Pollacheck is also the 2006 AHDRA ProGas Western Division Champion and the rider of “KillaCycle,” a world-famous electric dragbike.

Despite being new to the national series, Pollacheck (pictured below)realizes the demands of running a full NHRA circuit. “It’s tough to get all that time off traveling to all the races, and it’s a lot of money to spend.

I’ve been to four NHRA events and qualified once in Las Vegas,” he said. Despite the challenges that come with it, racing is in Pollacheck’s blood. “As soon as I got my driver’s license I was a ‘hot-rod kid’ and started going to the racetrack in Oregon. I’ve been involved with racing about 27 years now,” he said.

Hall, a newcomer to the NHRA circuit, won the 2009 AMA/Prostar Real Street and 2007 AMA/Prostar 1000 SuperSport events. He also finished third nationally in the 2005 AMA/Prostar 1000 SuperSport class.

When asked if it was a difficult decision to commit to an NHRA run with the Sovereign-Star Racing team, Hall said(pictured lower left), “It was a no-brainer.

I had never ridden a Pro Stock bike before going to the school, and, I think, George and Star Racing test you more than anybody – and that’s something that I needed. It’s a great group of people; they’re all great from the top to the bottom – from the shop to the track and everywhere in between. I think I’m a good fit and that we’re gonna have a great time.”

The new Sovereign-Star Racing riders have already shown their enormous potential on the S&S powered V-Twins during their first and only day of testing and tuning. Both Hall and Pollacheck ran career best times as the full crew met for the first time at the South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil, Ga.

Sovereign Racing Team owner Jeno Rujp named his Hungary-based team after his large European sugar distribution company. Bryce first met Rujp through Bryce’s drag racing school and was later asked by the European to be the coach and head tuner for his Sovereign Racing Team.

After Bryce helped lead the team to a 2011 UEM European Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship, Rujp set his sights on the lofty goal of racing in the NHRA circuit.

“The plans for us for 2012 with this Sovereign-Star Racing team is to make engine improvements, find more horsepower, do research and development, do dyno testing and track testing, develop the drivers to drive better and the engines to make more power,” Bryce said.

The Sovereign-Star Racing Team will get their first opportunity at success on March 9-11 as the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series gets underway in Gainesville, Fla., at the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals presented by NapaFilters.com.
