The question was “are you planning to bring Star Racing back to NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racing in 2012″.
George Byrce’s reply, “the only way I would be interested in going back on full scale tour would be with a wheel with five spokes and that would have to include the best rider, best motorcycle, best engine program and best people and the best money!”
Now a reply such as that to a question as up front as mine was, any reporter would know that it is about as standard reply as a standard reply can get.
So I added more to the question on the second take and replied back by saying “okay, are you planning to bring Star Racing back to NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racing in 2012 with the European Championship winning team“?
“It is more like a bag of “Sakrete” right now it is not concrete, the ingredients are there” Bryce added.
In a late 2011 Star Racing official press release the Hungarian-based Sovereign Racing Team was state side with Star Racing hosting a celebration of the 2011 European Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship win. The following quote came from the press release.
“Star Racing plans to continue their partnership with the Sovereign Racing Team in the coming year. During the team’s visit, Sovereign owner Jeno Rujp (pictured far right) expressed his loyalty toward Bryce as his racing partner by saying, “When George say no race with Jeno; Jeno finished. I no race without George.”
That quote raised everyone’s eyebrows a little. The Sovereign Team purchased and won the 2011 European PSM Championship with a bike purchased from Star Racing.
Star Racing returning to the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle ranks on a full schedule would be a return that has been long anticipated by both fans and Bryce himself.
Although the 6 time championship team owner portrays a nonchalant attitude about competing at a national level, his competitive nature and desire to be at the top shows it’s teeth with ease.
Returning to the NHRA to race motorcycles at a national level would require assembling at team with what Bryce say’s would require the best rider, best motorcycle, best engine program and best people and the best money.
And he is right when it comes to winning in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle ranks Star Racing has amassed 6 championships,78 national events wins and 149 final round appearances with different racing platforms and rider’s. Stats like these are hard to come by unless the best equipment is used.
In 2011 George Bryce made headlines across all news sources by going public and challenging the Harley Davidson V-Twins of Vance and Hines to sale or trade him everything he needed to assemble a Harley Davidson style pro stock motorcycle.
Bryce expressed his dislike to who ever would listen for the way the rules are written as he believes they are in heavy favor of the Harley Davidson team of Vance and Hines.
A lot of people listened and agreed with his views. His dismay was so great that he went far enough to declare he was not interested in competing again in the pro stock motorcycle class until things changed.
Could thing’s be changing? I asked “what has changed since you made those statements?”
Bryce say’s he has nothing left to prove in the NHRA as far as it goes with racing four cylinders, two cylinders, male, female, race, color,or creed and he quickly pointed out that a team that can run 6.80’s or 6.90’s (elapsed times) can win and all trophies went to teams that were that quick during the 2011 season.
He added since obtaining the parts to build a pro stock motorcycle identical to the Harley Davidson team’s bikes to compete with them is not going to happen anytime soon or if at all,
Bryce said ” our best chance is to take what we have learned over the last three or four years and build something like it (S&S V-Twin) and go try it again”!
Just keep in mind that George said “It is more like a bag of “Sakrete” right now it is not concrete, the ingredients are there”.
You will have to listen to the interview with George below to hear the rest of the story.
